what's in my [diaper] bag?

Do you remember when "What's In My Bag" videos were literally the only thing on YouTube? I love a good WIMB but I don't carry a purse, so a WIM-diaper-B will have to do!

I've never been one to drool over designer diaper bags and I didn't really want a shoulder bag because, hello, I don't even carry a purse. So since Josh and I figured he'd be the one carrying the diaper bag most of the time, we originally registered for a neutral and sporty Columbia backpack diaper bag, which I loved. It had tons of compartments and pouches to stash all our stuff and baby's, but it wasn't bulky and it easily passed for a regular backpack.

Two incidents led to the demise of the Columbia bag. First, I accidentally left a jar of coconut oil in the bag. This wouldn't ordinarily be a problem, except I left the bag in the car on a hot day. Spoiler... it doesn't take much heat to melt coconut oil down to a very slippery liquid that will happily ooze out of its container into the diaper bag. At least it smelled pleasant. Second, the straps for the diaper bag got pulled under the back wheel of a golf cart and were ripped off. It was a sad day.

We bought our next bag at Babies-R-Us shortly before they closed forever. I think we both prefer our Skip Hop Duo backpack more than the original Columbia we had. This bag doesn't have as many separate sections, but it works out better for us that way.

The main zippered pouch is divided into two sections. There is a smaller zippered pouch on the front and one elasticized drink holder on each side. The bag also has stroller straps, but we usually stuff it into the bottom of our stroller because it rocks back and forth and hits me in the knees repeatedly. I call the middle zippered pocket the "mommy pocket" and it has two lined pockets for my phone, chapstick, and keys.

What's in my diaper bag?
              1. Skip Hop Duo Backpack
              2. Changing pad
              3. Wet bag | stores soiled diapers and clothing
              4. Babyganics hand sanitizer
              5. Kerry's Herbals Miracle Salve | used for EVERYTHING... cuts, bug bites, lip balm,
              moisture barrier, etc.
              6. Nuby all-natural teething gel | lifesaver for a cranky baby these days
              7. Nail clippers | I only cut baby's nails when he sleeps, which is often when we're on the go
              8. Chapstick
9-11. Chew toys | teething is no joke, y'all!
              12. Extra diapers | I keep at least two covers in the bag
              13. Swaddle blanket | so many uses... nursing cover if I'm feeling extra modest, changing
pad, sun protection, diaper in a pinch, etc.
              14. Back-up pacifier
              15. Change of clothes | I usually keep two onesies in case of diaper disaster

Additionally, I keep at least four prefolds and some cloth wipes in the bag at all times. When packing a diaper bag it's a good idea to bring one diaper for every two hours you'll be out, plus two more in case of leaks or heavy wetting.
Am I missing anything?
